Set out from Oslo with a relaxing train journey on the Southern Railway Line through green forests and heather meadows to Kristiansand on the south coast. The train then heads northwest as the landscape changes to the flat and fertile fields of Jaeren, known for its unusual light. Admire the long, white beaches as you approach the coast at Brusand.
By expressboat between Stavanger and Bergen
One of Flaggruten's expressboats will carry you from Stavanger to Bergen. Enjoy the fresh air, sea and beautiful coastline and archipelago. We follow the Kongeleia shipping lane, an ancient route often mentioned in Snorre's sagas about the Viking kings.
Once you arrive in Bergen, we recommend you visit the fish market and sample the delicious fresh prawns, stroll among the old buildings in the Bryggen harbour area and take a trip to the top of one of Bergen's seven mountains.
The Bergen Railway
The journey from Bergen to Oslo takes you across "the roof of Norway" through a landscape of dramatic beauty. The highest point of the journey is at Finse with views of the blue ice of the Hardangerjøkulen glacier.
We recommend you to spend a night or two on your journey to experience the cities' individual charm and character. When visiting Stavanger, we can offer you a guided fjordsightseeing on the Lysefjord where you also can exprience the famous rockformation Pulpit Rock. Many travellers also combine the tour with a visit to Kristiansand Zoo, which offer amusements for the whole family.
